Independence, Iowa is the lifelong home of Evelyn Briggs, and the center of familial misunderstandings and strained connections. Eldest daughter Kess, after cutting family ties, returns to her childhood home at the urgent call of middle sister Jo. Jo is unexpectedly pregnant, and increasingly worried about their mother’s mental health. Sharp-tongued and amoral, the youngest sister Sherry, is trying to finish high school so she can leave home for good. The sisters struggle to meet the demanding expectations of their mother and test the bonds of family loyalty by trying to follow their own paths.
